Zespół realizuje prace dotyczące kodowania, składowania i przesyłania informacji multimedialnych oraz integracji platform multimedialnych. Prace badawcze ogniskują się na kodowaniu obrazów statycznych i ruchomych dla zastosowań w systemach czasu rzeczywistego, w tym w transmisjach z gwarancją jakości usług w sieciach komputerowych i telekomunikacyjnych. Prowadzone są również prace nad strukturą multimedialnych baz danych, a w szczególności nad ich indeksowaniem i przeszukiwaniem. Wyniki prac są wykorzystywane do projektowania internetowych serwisów multimedialnych z różnymi typami usług (na żądanie, telekonferencyjne, itp.), tworzenia systemów elektronicznego nauczania oraz w dedykowanych, sprzętowych systemach czasu rzeczywistego.
